Porth Neigwl- Hell's Mouth - LL53 7LG
Hell's Mouth - or Porth Neigwl - is a 4 mile long sandy beach, only a short drive from our self-catering farmhouse and barn conversion here at Cae Garw. It is most popular as a wind surfing beach, attracting the best surfers from all over Wales and the UK.
Being exposed to the full force of the Atlantic ocean -this 4 mile stretch of coast has been the site of many a shipwreck. Over the years , thirty or so vessels have met their end at this very site.
The beach is backed by steep clay cliffs with a rocky headland at each end - namely Cilan Headland on the eastern side and the slopes of Rhiw mountain on other.
The cliffs suffer badly from erosion, especially on the western side, so great care must be taken when walking close to the cliffs, especially at high tide .
Bathing here is dangerous - as there are strong rip tides and cross currents.
Hells Mouth is the most consistent and one of the best surf spot in North Wales - and is the perfect location for surfing, windsurfing, sailing, water-skiing, kitesurfing, kite flying and wake-boarding on the Llyn Peninsula.
The nearby village of Llanengan has a pretty 15th century church, with a pub.
Hells Mouth provides great fishing - although peak summer sees hundreds of holidaymakers in the surf making fishing impossible.
Facilities
A car park a few hundred yards from beach , no facilities - but a mobile snack bar is often in the car park in the summer.
